What Will We Do for Reunion 2013?

    We cannot promise you dolphins leaping in the harbor to welcome you back, but we can promise three and a half days of exciting events across campus! Our schedule of events guarantees that you will have plenty of time to meet with former classmates, make new acquaintances amongst fellow reunion attendees, see former professors, and share with your families and friends all that is great about Monterey and the Monterey Institute.

    It’s a weekend filled with happy hours, a career focused networking lunch, a family fun run, pancake breakfast, a faculty session, and a celebratory dinner reception.  And don’t think it’s all about staying on campus…for we have scheduled in plenty of time for local sightseeing, sports activities, and tours of local attractions.  We know that a short visit back to Monterey needs to be a balance between education, engagement and fun….so Make Your Way Back to Monterey for Reunion 2013. 

    The majority of Reunion 2013 activities will be taking place on the Monterey Institute campus. You will receive a map with your registration, but feel free to reference the electronic version here: campus_map_4-13.pdf

    Schedule of Events:

    Thursday, July 25:
    2:00 p.m.: Registration opens (Simoneau Alumni House)
    3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.: Campus Tours (start at Simoneau Alumni House)
    5:00 p.m.: President’s Reunion Welcome Wine and Cheese Reception (President’s House)
    Dinner on your own.  Check out the many wonderful restaurants on the peninsula! 

    Friday, July 26:
    8:00 a.m.: Registration continues (Simoneau Alumni House)
    8:00 a.m.: Continental Breakfast (McCone Lobby)
    9:00 a.m.: President’s Welcome: Monterey Institute in 2013 and Beyond (Irvine Auditorium)
    10:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.: Coffee break
    10:15 – 11:45 a.m. “Relevance of MIIS Today” take part in a conversation about your field with faculty and learn how MIIS stays relevant, still educating people ready to take on any challenge from day one. With Ed Laurance, Barry Olsen, Jon Wolfstahl, Lyuba Zarsky and Fusun Akarsu
    11:45 a.m.: CACS Presentation
    12:00 p.m.: Career Networking Luncheon presented by the Center for Advising and Career Services (Samson Student Center)
    1:30 p.m. CACS “Sweet” Open House with dessert, wine, raffle and more. Come visit the CACS office and meet the advisors one on one (McCone CACS Office)
    2:00 p.m.: Open sightseeing time! Check out activities and discounts on the alumni website
    2:00 p.m. (optional) The Summer Intensive Language Program (SILP) will be hosting a program celebration and talent show that will include a variety of food and entertainment. The SILP students will be present, and all alumni are welcome to mix and mingle. (Holland Center and courtyard)
    5:00 p.m.: The Tradition Continues...Campus Happy Hour with local beer, rootbeer, appetizers, music, and memorable activities! (Samson Student Center) **Reminder: Please bring photo ID, all ID's will be checked at the door**Dinner on your own.

    Saturday, July 27:
    8:30 a.m.: Family Fun Run with avid runner and MIIS Professor Emeritus, Glynn Wood! This 1.5 mile loop is a perfect chance to get in your weekend exercise, or enjoy the beautiful lap around the park with family and friends. Light breakfast provided (Lake El Estero Park
    10:00 a.m.: Full day of sightseeing and Monterey Peninsula-based discounted activities Check back soon for details, as we finalize group discount rates for kayaking, wine tasting, golf, adobe history tours, and much more!
    7:00 p.m.: "Memories and More" Dinner (InterContinental The Clement MontereyJoin family, faculty, and fellow alumni for a walk down memory lane.  Check out the Photo Memory Wall, make new photo memories at the photo booth, or take a moment to be part of our video storytelling.

    Sunday, July 28:
    9:00 a.m.: Farewell Pancake breakfast (Samson Student Center) 

    The Monterey Institute Gift Shop will be open throughout reunion weekend, located in the Simoneau Alumni House.  All alumni will enjoy at 10% off discount all weekend! We will also conduct campus history tours Thursday afternoon that will start at the Alumni House.
