While there are as many definition variations for social networking as there are social networks, in general social networking describes the way that individuals build online networks of contacts and interact with these personal or business friends. The career staff at the Institute always say that networking is
the professional skill to acquire, and we want to make it easy to network with new MIIS friends, reconnect with former classmates, and search for professional connections. The Monterey Institute has a presence on nine different sites, join us in the conversation today!

The MIIS Facebook site has over 5,500 fans! It's a great place to check out campus news, activities, reconnect with alumni, see what projects and presentations students are working on, and share your thoughts with alumni and friends of the Monterey Institute!

The MIIS LinkedIn site launched in 2007 and there are over 2,300 professional from all degree programs already "linked!" LinkedIn will allow you to join groups that share your professional interests, connect with MIIS alumni (or alumni from other universities/scholarship programs you have attended), and offers group forums, event reminders, and job postings.

Mixi is the largest social network in Japan. You need to be invited by a member to join (and you also need either a Japanese cell phone number or email address)-please check the profiles of your classmates in the alumni directory, and get connected. Mixi is in Japanese, so your computer has to be set to read Japanese (Kanji, Romaji and Hiragana).

The Monterey Institute linked to Orkut in 2009, promoting social connections and networks for our Indian and Brazilian students and alumni.

Check out the MIIS community on Sina.com, the largest social network and most popular internet portal in China. MIIS students and alumni are connecting at the MIISchina section of the sina blog, and we encourage you to join in! Your computer needs to be set to read Chinese characters.

Studivz is the largest online community for German-speaking students and their friends. MIIS has many connections on Studivz.net, and it's a great site to connect with alumni, seek employment leads in German and search for additional resources.

"What are you doing now?" is the question Twitter allows you to address, and Monterey Institute students, faculty, staff, and alumni are already telling the world! MIIS began tweeting in January, 2009 and we invite you to follow us. Join the Twitter conversation today!

The most popular social networking site in Russia and the Ukraine, V Kontakte translates to "in contact" or "in touch," and that's just what you'll be if you connect with MIIS alumni at Vkontakte. Major Russian companies post employment announcements to the site, and you'll be able to reconnect with classmates and friends.

The Institute's YouTube channel contains videos made by or of interest to the MIIS community.
